Since it’s the New Year (and you may have broken your some of your resolutions already), we think you (dancers) should take some time to think about a new resolution. Get off the stage and get face to face with audiences… literally. As we glance at our dance calendars, we’re stumbling (gracefully) upon some unique events that’ll make you open your date book and plan for 2009. It’s time to explore new ideas you didn’t know existed… where the audience is not in front of you, but instead to your right and left; and where every step looks, feels and stirs like the hub of the dance world. The 3rd annual Dance Parade will be stoppin’ traffic in NYC streets on May 16th this year, so call them now to reserve your space. More than 5,000 individual performers and dance companies get noticed through this dynamic venue, so we think it should be on your ‘To Do’ list. This annual procession proudly displays dance as an expressive, unifying art form from all genres of dance. If you wanna celebrate dance diversity in the Big Apple, this is a great way to do it. By coming to see this spectacle (or participating in it yourself!), you’ll see everything from swing and salsa, ballet and hip hop, all the way to house and even roller disco! Mayor Michael Bloomberg said it himself: “New York is an international cultural capital, and dance is no exception. Some of the globe’s greatest dancers call our great city home.” So, why not get your dance friends together and think about another resolution: Trying New Things. This year, invest in some good ‘ole self-promotion-parade style. After all, “They say the neon lights are bright on Broadway…They say there's always magic in the air.” But when you're walkin' down the NYC streets, struttin’ your stuff in the Dance Parade, you’ll snag new exposure in broad daylight. Talk about a standing ovation. Get ahead of schedule. Visit www.danceparade.org |
