Hop your way to Jesus |

|
His name is so appropriate for the Easter celebration, but we’ll let you figure out why. This week’s news is big because someone outrageously gorgeous is premiering at the Joyce Soho and Ron De Jesus is the man of the hour. (As opposed to the man in the mirror... we love you and miss you, Michael.) Ron De Jesus is an architect of stylish, athletic, and often sensuous (woot) choreographer of classic and contemporary dance. He’ll present not one, not two, but four world premieres during his debut tonight. (Holy Passover!) This choreo who appeared in Dance Break ’07 is preparing to put spring in every New Yorker’s step with pieces titled, “Liquid” “Wham of Sam” “Edged” and “InWood”. And you can achieve the diversity and mesmerizing performance steps for $10. (No, this is not an April Fool’s joke. Tickets are really only $10.) Ok. We lied. The real reason we’re telling you about Ron De Jesus Dance is because he was part of the original cast and lead of the Twyla Tharp/Billy Joel Musical “Movin Out” and it’s our all-time fave. (Hey, we can pick favorites.) Ron’s also worked with pioneers like Nacho Duato, Bob Fosse and he even appeared with our friends in Across the Universe. Historic Tid Bit: Besides seeing this company, when you put your De’booty in a Joyce Soho seat, you’re literally sitting in a historic firehouse landmark. Forget the egg hunt. There’s great dance in full view in Soho. (And by all means... that view looks pretty-darn good.) |
