Actually, his style is… relayed to us by none other than Kevin Irving who worked closely with Duato’s company, Compania Nacional de Danza. What exactly is Duato’s style? He integrates the line and precision of classical ballet with contemporary flair. Irving, former artistic director of The Gothenburg Ballet in Sweden and longtime associate of Nacho Duato, is teaching an intensive course based on the extremely popular Spanish choreographer from April 20 - May 1 at Peridance in NYC. Irving has staged productions of Duato ballets all over the world, including Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Nederlands Dance Theater, The Royal Ballet Covent Garden and Zurich Ballet. His interpretation of Duato’s style emphasizes articulation, phrasing, and expression. Irving is currently a guest ballet master with The Royal Danish Ballet in Copenhagen, where he is particularly focusing on bringing the elements of contemporary dance to the classically trained. Want mo’ Nacho? His choreography is renowned for musicality. Participating dancers will learn excerpts from Duato's choreography, including highlights from some of his earliest works, Jardi Tancat and Rassemblement, as well as more recent productions, including Remanso.
