Artistic frustration happens to the best of us. Don’t fret if you didn’t get that gig. Just find yourself a good way to let it all out. We caught up with singer/dancer Jamilia Hall, and she told us she vents via song. Whether it’s “No Greater Love” by Billie Holiday or anything by Janet, Jamilia loves to sing, especially when she’s down. But Hall’s no Debbie Downer; she was recently in a music video on MTV’s hilarious new series The College Humor Show. She also blows the roof off the house in her SCENE Interactive dance reel shown here. Need a pick me up? Hall suggests Jill Scott, whom she quoted as “a singer with a warm spirit who doesn’t feed into what society thinks is beautiful.” Vent-worthy tale: While touring with DecaDance, Jamilia once fell off the stage in the middle of a performance. It was dark, so no one saw, but everyone heard. And she vented. MORAL OF THE STORY: Let it out through dancing, singing or straight up venting. And if you happen to fall… dust yourself off and try again, try again oooh… |
