Party Like a Rockstar

Picture this: die hard fans jumping up and down, crying happy tears, screaming your name at the top of their lungs and dancing like a maniac while their favorite song is played live. You’re a rockstar and you’re livin' the life. Tour buses, loud concerts and t shirts with your group’s name on them are everywhere. Jackie Covas reveals what it’s really like to perform in front of 30,000 shrieking… kids.

“I never thought I would dance in a kids show, but the casting director for Doodlebops Live! called me in for an audition. I booked the job and began my journey as a backup dancer with a touring kids rock band.”

Covas’ home was a sleeper bus complete with flat screens, leather sofas and a bus driver who had been on the road with some of the greatest rock bands in history. It’s true. One of the most popular opps, other than dancing with Aerosmith or ‘N Sync, could be dancing with guys in wigs named Rooney and Moe. Covas told us that she came to a personal realization that she had previously underestimated the “cool factor” of dancing with the Doodlebops. Her newfound celeb gig gave her the chance to perform in massive arenas and hotspots like Madison Square Garden with thousands of screaming children watching and singing along, dancing in the aisles and waving strobe lights. The experience created some of the best memories of her life.

At the end of every show, the curtain would fall on a mosh pit of kids, who were completely out-of-their-minds after confetti cannons exploded into the audience. It was in that moment, everyday, that Covas got a taste of what it would feel like to be a real rockstar. "Suddenly, being a backup dancer for a kids’ show rocked!" she noted.

So, what did we learn from this trend next gen? Sometimes the ‘gotta have it’ job includes sporting red, orange and white striped socks and pigtails. Go for it… the kid market is booming!
