A Day in the Life of Seth StewartMonday night, July 12, 2010--Summer vacation... and what a beautiful summer it is! In the past week I've already seen 2 concerts! Lady Gaga, which was amazing. (I know gendance saw her too, so kudos.) And the Celebrate Brooklyn concert with Talib Kweli, and The Roots. That's right, I already saw them. And just last week I was saying that they were the one group I wanted to see.  Amazing what happens when you don't do 8 shows a week. Lady Gaga was amazing. I'm not the type to buy her album because I like the music, but I knew the performance would be incredible. It was the first show I've seen in a while where everything from the sets, to the costumes, to the direction, and choreography was all on point. Record companies aren't spending money on artists like they used to, but this show was the exception, and well done. I needed to see an artist at their highest level of performance. Because sometimes, actually all the time, performers need inspiration. And this show gave me a little more fire to keep following my path... Totally opposite of the feel of Madison Square Garden and "out-there" Gaga monsters, was The Roots concert outside in Prospect Park in Brooklyn, totally crowed, trees, the hot blazing sun, the smell of BBQ in the air, and people smiling and dancing every where. It was equally amazing. There's something about a concert outside that is unmatched. It's natural, it's free. The interaction with everyone around you has a deeper feeling. I'm just so happy I was able to be inspired by so many different artists in the past few days.

Oh Yeah! dance studios has been picking up. I've been doing more events locally, getting the marketing and advertising out as much as I can. I never realized, that even owning a small business would be so much work. I don't mind working for something I believe in. But this has been a test. I'm trying to find new strategies to get more students. It's difficult sometimes... but I know this is still the beginning. I would recommend to anyone starting a new business to have patience and faith. That quote was actually in In The Heights, but still holds true in so many ways. I'm realizing sometimes you have to wait and align yourself for the right moments, in life and in business. If you are hopeful, the energy around you will be hopeful. If you are positive, the energy you receive back will be positive. And I really believe this business will take off and be better than I expected. And the thing is- that I really expect it to be great. I'm not worried about disappointment or failure... I don't really believe in it either. And sometimes, I feel being optimistic is more powerful than anything. In anything we do in life... we must be optimistic. Worrying about failure or anything else less than success, is just worry, and it will just bother the mind. I think we can accomplish anything, because we are creators, and that's the way the universe works. So even though I want more students (we always want more of everything), I'm happy with the students I have. And I know more are on their way. Until then, I tell my employees and myself, to keep being great, to keep giving great classes, just to push and expand ourselves. Because there will always be a moment out of the blue that a door will open, and everyone will need to be fully prepared. Still pushing...
