Jake Yarberry began his bodybuilding career at the age of twelve. Inspired by Arnold Schwarzenegger, Yarberry remembers feeling immediately drawn to this unlikely arena. Using bodybuilding as a way to expend his energy and aggression, Jake felt that it also added discipline and structure to his troubled childhood. With a large support system, Yarberry climbed his way up the heavyweight ladder. He was so dedicated that he even had three pounds of chicken, brown rice, oatmeal and yams prepared for him each day. Not by his mom either, by a professional cook! Transferring his career from the gym mats to the film stage, Yarberry tested out his acting chops by taking a few acting classes at a community college. Yet, he was hesitant about making a career out of his talents and admits, “I have always been afraid of not having a decent job, so the idea of becoming a starving artist was not very appealing to me.” Ultimately, Yarberry decided to take the risk. Jake got swept up in creative work and performed in LA and Vegas for years excelling in all forms of the arts. “I feel that the more involved in the arts you become, the more you realize that we all create our own lives. If you want a good life, you need to create that for yourself.” He recently moved to Japan and is working for Universal Studios in Osaka on a live stunt show entitled The Terminator. Moving from LA to Japan has transformed this starving artist into a satisfied well fed soul. Yarberry recollects his audition for The Terminator, “They have the auditions every year around the world and they are actually very fun if you let them be.” Participating in the stunt audition, Yarberry was asked to perform basic tumbling, 10 pull-ups and a choreographed fight. After a few cuts, it was time to start the interviewing process. Even though he nabbed the role, Yarberry says it’s important to remember, “They need certain types [of people] to fit certain roles. Even though you may fit a role, they might not have a spot available for you.” The bottom line: don’t take anything personally. So what’s Jake Yarberry’s next perfect gig? He responded “I want to be able to make a living having fun with other people.” Now that sounds perfect. This is one incredible trendsetter. We couldn’t resist the full monty, so we posted the entire skype interview word per word here. |
