Grande Adéchiké

Grande Adéchiké

If Adéchiké were a choice at Starbucks he would be “contemporary with a hint of flavor.” Adéchiké began his dance journey at six years old. After later training at the Boston Conservatory (wicked) and the New World School of the Arts (bien venido a miami), Torbert leaped his way to the head of his class and to the Top 4 on SYTYCD. Luckily, gendance was able to sweet-talk him into an interview before he danced away. Here’s what Torbert wanted to tell you:

What’s the best advice that you have for gendancers?
Stay focused. If you love something, stick with it. Follow your heart. Be a master of your destiny.

What’s the best piece of advice from the judges that you received?
To have fun. It’s difficult though, because you work so hard and then you get up there and they tell you that you did terrible.

What’s the hardest thing about being on the show?
The negative criticism. Digesting all of the information that the judges give you can be awfully hard sometimes.

What was your favorite dance this season?
The one choreographed by Desmond Richardson.

Of course. We love Des. Good call. Now, before we sign off, what’s your next step?
I’d love to get to Broadway and I’m in the process of getting an agent. I’m thinking about moving to LA maybe too.

Watch out Broadway, Adéchiké is headed in your direction. Or, LA, which is the opposite direction. But in any case, with his experience on SYTYCD behind him, he will surely outshine any spotlight that comes his way.
