Dramatic Layers For Fall

Dramatic Layers For Fall

There is a chill in the air again, signaling the start of the Fall season and you know what that means… Layering!  No other fashion concept lends itself more to the dance world as this particular mixing and matching sensibility.  Here is how to keep it edgy and elegant:

1 Use one bold print and keep the rest monochromatic.  This lets the pattern shine while still keeping the texture of multiple garments.

2 Holey tights and warm-ups are in! They have been making a splash on the Fall runway, showing where you have been and telling where you are about to go.  For best results, be sure to clean up the edges and trim any fraying.

3 Keep your hair and makeup clean and simple, too many ideas can appear messy. Remember K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Sweetheart) and you will never have reason to second guess.

The goal with layering is to show your unique style sensibility—many pieces of clothing can be worn in multiple and surprising ways--there are no wrong answers!

Pictures from top to bottom-right:
1.  Leotards and Legwarmers layered in waiting at a LOLAstretch photoshoot.

2. This geometric pattern leotard by the fashion house Pucci, inspired by the Olympics would be great layered with black tights or shorts, a holey black warmup sweater and classic French twist for hair.

3. These knit tights by the fashion duo Rodarte could go straight from the runway into the studio and then out to dinner.  Pick up a large set of knitting needles, some wispy yarn and you have yourself a Fall craft project or a great Christmas gift!

4. Dale Jordan putting on makeup for a LOLAstretch photoshoot with me in consultation.  Makeup is a clean but glittery look from Shiny Mama and LOLAstretch Stars Legwarmers worn as a scarf.  Both available at www.lolastretch.com

5. Keeping it simple by layering a belt over a leotard.
