Ain’t No River Wide Enough… |

That’s right. The powerful flow of River North Chicago Dance Company is hard to compete with. They hosted their 20th anniversary last Saturday night, unveiling two compelling world premieres and a little birdie gave us the inside scoop. The dancers took the stage with malleable mesh shirts that were manipulated and stretched to amplify a ‘tug of war’ effect. “The emotional piece explored the internal struggles that keep us from breaking through the boundaries we set for ourselves,” stated Artistic Director, Frank Chaves. It certainly won over the Chicago Tribune, which claimed RNCDC as “seductive and accessible.” Co-Artistic Director Sherry Zunker premiered “Evolution of a Dream,” in honor of the anniversary. The piece relived a company classic, “Reality of a Dreamer”, that Zunker created in 1992. The rendition celebrates who River North is today while foreshadowing dreams to come. (Very next gen.) A dance company that shares compelling behind the scenes footage is pretty swift in our eyes. We love the documentary idea. Keep flowing, River North and Happy 20th. We wish you 20 more.
