NYC may be our dance capital, but smart dancers broaden their horizons. There are tons of opportunities waiting for dancers overseas. Bijan certainly snagged one. He made a short reel, got the gig, and flew to India…all in one week. Bijan and fellow dancers rehearsed one week off-set, then had one week of shooting on-set with PRIYANKA CHOPRA (the Angelia Jolie of Bollywood). In the film called Drona, dancers are featured as car factory workers fixing tires and working with tools. When sounds of instruments start to surface, the dancers emerge from beneath the cars and break out into choreography. “That’s the way Bollywood films are. There’s no rhyme or reason to it; they just bust out in moves…at any given moment.” The set had cool props like big plastic drums topped with water that created different sounds and dancers were adorned with face paint. The cast worked 16-20 hour days, but it was totally worth it. “They paid for airfare, put us up in 4 star hotels, and gave us a driver!” Look beyond the border and go international; you just might get the star treatment. See where dance can take you - |
