It Takes Two to Tango

Burn the Floor

In the case of Burn the Floor, it takes 18 award-winning international dancers from Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Russia, Australia, Sweden, The Philippines and the U.S. Not to mention Australian Ballroom and World Latin American champions. If you crave a hot night out, the Longacre Theatre is the place to be. gendance heated things up last week, sweating it out with Maks and Kym from Dancing with the Stars in this unbelievable ballroom spectacular.

Burn the Floor combines both Latin and Ballroom styles for a diverse dance experience. The idea for the production first came to life as a special performance at Sir Elton John's 50th birthday party back in 1997. (Yes, the Rocket Man’s shindig.) Now, as an ‘only-dance’ Broadway show, Burn the Floor provides the perfect combo of classic technique and sexy modern moves.

“The Dirty Boogie” made us wanna get up and Jive, while the passionate Paso Doble (Matador theme and all) took us to Spain for a fleeting moment. We also felt a bit elegant after experiencing the Viennese Waltz, performed to “Nights in White Satin”.

Our favorite part was when Ricky Rojas sang “Burn for You.” It was such a romantic song, we almost melted.

But, back to the dance… the next time you say you’re tired, think about this cast who dances for 2 hours and fifteen minutes non-stop… literally. From a salsa to “Sing Sing Sing” to a cha cha to “Turn the Beat Around”, Burn the Floor is THE show to see this holiday season. Don’t get stuck Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree… rock your ticket-buying self to Broadway and bring the mistletoe because it's HOT.
